English 9 Period 1

By using a sampling of literature, students will work to enhance various writing, reading, and speaking skills during the course of this class.  Students will also be expected to display independent reading skills.  Writing will emphasize focus, content, organization, style, and conventions.  Instruction on how to write the research paper will include choosing a topic, preparing bibliographies, taking notes, creating outlines, writing and revising drafts, and publishing the final paper.  Students will be challenged to read a variety of material, and the theme, form of the novel, short story, and drama will be discussed.  A study of grammar and vocabulary as a key to everyday communication will also be included in this course.
